Hurricane Hits Cincinnati!

Wondering why we haven't been blogging? It isn't our usual excuse that we are way too busy working; it is that hurricane winds hit Cincinnati last Sunday. Depending on your source, maximum wind velocities were between 75-86 miles per hour! Believe it or not, that wind came without any rain; it was so strange. Needless to say, 1.2 million people in the city lost their power including us. Luckily, 97% of customers have gotten their power back. It is a shame we are in that 3% who hasn't. We are awfully thankful that despite the terrible weather there were very few injuries and our house sustained little damage. We are also thankful for our friends Brent and Nahid who have let us crash at their house every other night when I am on call so I can have access to a computer. I promise to post pictures of the damage when our power returns. Please cross your fingers for us and hope that it is today!

Our Cincinnati Zoo Experience

Two weeks ago Ari's parents came to visit us and check out the new place. Since the moons and stars aligned that Saturday Ari and I were BOTH off of work so we decided to take them to the Cincinnati Zoo. We actually have a pretty nice zoo here, not quite St. Louis but definitely better than Milwaukee. As soon as we walked in we were lured toward the lorikeets. They have an enclosure where you can feed them nectar or seeds on a stick and they fly down and land on you! It is hilarious! We had birds swarming us, landing on our heads and everything. Luckily we didn't get pooped on, some of the other visitors weren't so lucky. Then we were off to visit all the animals. The penguins were feeling a bit shy which was a bit disappointing (especially for Ari) but they were feeding the big cats. The best, I think, was the polar bear who showed off both his freestyle and back stroke. After 4 hours at the zoo, I was pooped. Ari and his mom made dinner while I took a nap. It was so nice to wake up to a home cooked meal. We finished the night off with a game of Mexican Train (that is dominoes for the lay people).

Marshan and Mike had a busy agenda during their visit, using our house as home base to visit some of their friends in Illinois and Kentucky. It was nice to see them and we look forward to another visit after the baby arrives!
